1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Acts of Love ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Acts of Love mobile app and website (the "Service"). Acts of Love is the data controller for information collected through the Service. We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share your mobile phone number or SMS consent with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
2. Information We Collect
- Account information — your name, mobile phone number, optional email address, profile photo, and the parish community you join.
- Verification data — one-time passcodes (OTPs) sent by SMS, verification timestamps, and the outcome of verification, used to confirm your phone number and secure your account.
- Community content — prayer requests, event RSVPs, ministry sign-ups, posts, and messages you choose to share.
- Communication preferences — your push, email, and SMS notification choices, and a record of your SMS opt-in or opt-out and its date and source.
- Device and usage data — device type and operating system, app version, IP address, crash reports, and in-app activity used to operate, secure, and improve the Service.
- Optional permissions — camera or photo library access if you upload a photo, and push notification permission. You control these in your device settings, and the app works without them.
We do not collect precise location data, contacts, health data, or payment card information from parishioners, and we do not use tracking for cross-app advertising.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Create your account and verify your phone number with an SMS one-time passcode;
- Submit your registration to a parish administrator for approval and inform you of the result;
- Enable you to find and connect with fellow parishioners, events, and ministries;
- Send transactional messages about your account and, if you choose, community alerts and reminders;
- Provide support and respond to your requests;
- Maintain the safety, integrity, and security of the Service, including preventing fraud and abuse;
- Understand aggregate usage to improve features; and
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. SMS Messaging and Phone Numbers
Your mobile phone number is used to send one-time passcodes for account verification and sign-in, and to send account and community alerts you have opted in to receive. Transactional OTP and account messages are required for the Service to function; optional alerts require your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by replying STOP or changing your in-app notification settings. Message and data rates may apply and message frequency varies.
We share your phone number with our SMS delivery provider solely to transmit those messages on our behalf. No mobile information, phone numbers, or SMS consent data is sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. See our SMS Policy for full program details.
5. Sharing Within Your Parish Community
Your name and profile photo are visible to approved members of your parish community so they can recognize and connect with you. Content you post is visible to the audience you select. Parish administrators can see member registration details for their community, including your phone number, in order to approve members and coordinate ministries. Your phone number is not displayed to other members unless you choose to share it.
6. Service Providers and Other Disclosures
We share information only as follows:
- Service providers — hosting and database, SMS delivery, push notification, email delivery, error monitoring, and analytics vendors, who may process information only to provide services to us under contract.
- Your parish — as described in Section 5.
- Legal and safety — when required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or when necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of members, the public, or Acts of Love.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, subject to this Policy.
7. Data Retention
We retain account information while your account is active. Verification codes are short-lived and expire within minutes; verification logs are retained for a limited period for security and audit purposes. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or necessary to resolve disputes, enforce our Terms, or maintain records of SMS opt-out requests (which we keep to honor your opt-out).
8. Your Choices and Rights
- Access and correction — view and edit your profile in the app.
- Deletion — request deletion of your account and data in the app or by emailing support@actsofloveapp.com.
- Notifications — manage push, email, and SMS preferences in the app; reply STOP to end SMS.
- State privacy rights — depending on where you live (for example, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia), you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to appeal a decision. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Contact us to exercise these rights; we will not discriminate against you for doing so.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest for stored data, access controls, and role-based administrator permissions. Accounts are protected by phone-number verification rather than shared passwords. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is intended for parishioners age 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. International Users
The Service is operated in the United States, and information is processed and stored there. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the app or to the contact information associated with your account.
